Everything you need to know about planning your dream wedding in St Lucia

It’s no surprise to us that St Lucia is one of the top wedding destinations in the world.  Not only that, it’s been voted the world’s leading honeymoon destination a record nine times too. If you’re engaged or thinking about getting married, a wedding in St Lucia could be the big day you’ve always dreamed of and, what’s more, we’re here to make the whole process easy and stress-free.

Legal requirements The legalities of a wedding in St Lucia are straightforward as there is no minimum residency requirement.   Through a local solicitor you can apply to the Attorney General or a notary for a marriage licence two days in advance, or even on the same day if you’re happy to pay a small premium. You just need to show your passports and birth certificates, unless you’ve been married before, in which case you also need to show original copies of divorce papers or, if you’ve been widowed, your former spouse’s death certificate. Note that same sex marriages are not currently legal in St Lucia.

Civil or religious ceremony? When it comes to deciding on a venue for your wedding in St Lucia you really are spoilt for choice.  For religious ceremonies there is an amazing variety of churches and chapels in stunning locations, or you can even get married in the cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in the island’s capital, Castries. If you choose the latter, your local parish priest will need to contact the Cathedral in advance to make sure you meet their requirements. As for other wedding locations, pretty much anything you can imagine, we can make it happen. St Lucia boasts a wealth of gorgeous landscapes which can be a backdrop to your wedding: lush, tropical gardens; sumptuous waterfalls; atmospheric ruins; a picturesque lighthouse; a clifftop villa; a plantation estate; not to mention one of the many beautiful beaches. If you decide to get married in the grounds of a hotel, you’ll find that some resorts even offer free weddings as part of your stay. There are certainly plenty of options to choose from and since we have personally stayed at many of the hotels, we’re able to recommend the best location to make your dreams a reality. Getting organised We’ve overseen dozens of weddings in St Lucia for our clients so you can be confident that everything will run smoothly. Many of the hotels and resorts we work with have dedicated, experienced wedding planners and we also have extensive contacts with professional wedding organisers on the island.  So whether you are planning an intimate affair with just a handful of guests, or want to supersize your celebrations with a large wedding party, we have the network and expertise to take on all the planning for you. Looking after your guests Obviously any wedding centres on the happy couple and ensuring they have an unforgettable experience, but we know how important it is to look after your guests too! Depending on the size of your wedding party, we can recommend the best accommodation options for them, ensuring they have a first class holiday experience.  Many couples like to have their guests staying nearby but not necessarily in the same hotel as them, so we can suggest convenient locations which suit everyone’s budget. We can also arrange pre- or post-wedding activities or get-togethers so your family and friends can enjoy socialising as well as experiencing the best St Lucia has to offer. Personal service Right from your first contact with our team, we will allocate you a dedicated wedding expert to guide you through the whole process and ensure that you get the wedding you’ve always dreamed of. From the big decisions to the tiny details, the inspiration to the perspiration, we’re on hand to assist you every step of the way. Don’t just take our word for it! Here’s just one of the lovely testimonials we’ve received from happy clients: “I found Simply St Lucia on the internet and sent them an email about getting married. We told the team what we wanted and they quickly replied with a few options to suit our needs and our budget.  We had 20 guests attending, including children and teenagers, so we needed somewhere all-inclusive with activities, spa and a good beach. Natasha highly recommended Windjammer Landings, which she knew well as she’d stayed there.  The price she achieved was excellent and our wedding in St Lucia was absolute bliss. Windjammer was exactly what we needed and our big day was amazing from start to finish.” – Mr & Mrs Sutton
